Chapter 9

The ninth chapter starts out with Nick trying to get in touch with Daisy. When he calls her house though, he is told that they had left with no forwarding address. Nick tries to track down people to come to pay their respects, but he has a tough time. Nick meets Mr. Gatz, Gatsby's father. Mr. Gatz has his misconceptions about his son, he believed that if he had lived. he would have "built up the country". Gatsby bought is father his house which shows that he used is money for good, or at least good intentions. We realize that Nick only has one true friend, Nick. All these people take advantage of Gatsby for his parties and his money and when he dies they do not care enough to even come to his funeral. It is a terribly rainy day on the day of Gatsby's funeral. The only other person that came to the funeral was the man with the owl eyes. The reason i think he came is because he is the one who went to Gatsby's library and saw all of his books. He realized there was a real person in Gatsby, just like Nick. Later it is revealed to Nick by Tom that Tom is the one who to told Mr. Wilson that Gatsby was the one driving that care. Nick cant find it in himself to tell Tom that Daisy was driving the car. Nick says that Tom and Daisy are careless people and that they just let other people clean up there messes. The story ends with Nick looking at the green light that Gatsby looked at, the light at Daisy's house. IT ends with "Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that’s no matter – to-morrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther…And one fine morning –
So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past."
