Chapter 8

Chapter 8 is the day after the hottest day of the year. Nick tells Gatsby that he should leave for awhile, but Gatsby thinks that daisy will be over soon to see him. One of Gatsby's servants tells him that he wants to drain the pool, and Gatsby tells him not to. This is another example of how Gatsby misses his chances to do something he wants, and then tries to do it before it's gone. This will lead him into death and bad outcomes every time. Nick leaves Gatsby's house saying "They're a rotten crowd, you're worth the whole damn bunch put together". This is the first time Nick really shows to Gatsby how much he likes him. This is interesting because Nick never approves of what Gatsby is doing the whole story, but Nick knows that he is a good man and is just lost. Everyone else in the story are bad people. Wilson, the man from the garage, reveals that he know that his wife has been having an affair. He finds a dog collar and the remembers seeing myrtle beaten and knows he did not do it. Wilson comes over to Gatsby's house thinking that he was the man cheating with his wife and that he was the man who killed her. He shoots Gatsby in the pool and then kills himself. Nick comes over later to find Gatsby dead.
